Lake of the Woods VINE Coverage
Minnesota VINELink is the online access point for Minnesota VINE, the state’s county-jail custody and notification system. The Lake of the Woods County Detention Center page directs users to VINE. A search can locate a specific jail booking by name, partial name, or identification number. Available information may include current custody status, custody facility, booking information, facility ID, and scheduled-release information when supplied.
VINE does not connect to Minnesota Department of Corrections prisons. That limit is central. A person held in the Lake of the Woods County Jail belongs in the VINE route. A person committed to MNDOC belongs in the DOC Locator for public status and Minnesota Haven for prison notifications. Federal prisoners belong in the BOP system, not VINE. Each channel describes only its own custody system.

Lake of the Woods VINE Fields
Fields depend on what the participating jail sends and what applies to the selected booking. Minnesota’s official fact sheet supports the categories below. It does not promise that every person has every field or that a future date will remain unchanged.

Read Lake of the Woods VINE Events
Lake of the Woods County’s holding limit makes event wording unusually important. A person can leave the local facility for the community or for a neighboring jail. The state inspection classifies the jail as a “72 Hour Holding” facility, and county materials document the need to house longer-held people elsewhere. Departure from the Baudette facility is therefore not enough to establish release.
- Release
- A reported custody-ending event from the participating jail. The sheriff record may state bond, court order, time served, or another maintained basis.
- Transfer
- A move to another custodian. Search the named receiving jail or agency because the person remains confined.
- Scheduled release
- A future date supplied when available. It can change and does not establish a completed event.
- Discharge
- The end of a sentence or agency authority. It can occur after an earlier physical release into community supervision.
A VINE release alert can coexist with an open court case, such as a bond or conditional release. MCRO answers the legal-case question. It ordinarily does not provide the physical jail-exit timestamp. Register Lake of the Woods VINE Alerts
Notification registration begins from the correct person’s result. Minnesota material says basic use can be anonymous and does not require a stated purpose. An account is optional. Offered delivery choices can include phone, email, text, in-app alerts, or other channels visible in the current interface.
- Select registration or notifications from the verified VINELink result.
- Choose one or more delivery methods that the current system offers.
- Enter the destination, such as a phone number or email address.
- Create a personal identification number, called a PIN, and keep it in a safe place.
- For a phone alert, enter the PIN when prompted to confirm receipt.
- Use the PIN later to modify or cancel the registration. Call 1-866-277-7477 if the PIN is lost.
Current state information says phone attempts may continue for up to 24 hours until receipt is confirmed with the PIN. That retry period is not a promise that the first agency event will reach VINE without delay. Maintain other reasonable ways to obtain urgent information and confirm significant changes with the responsible agency.

VINE Versus Minnesota Haven
Minnesota uses a local two-system notification structure. VINE handles county-jail custody, including the route promoted by Lake of the Woods County. Minnesota Haven handles MNDOC prison custody and release notifications. Haven is not a public person-search archive.
For a person in state prison, use the MNDOC Locator to inspect public current status. The viewer covers adults who remain under DOC jurisdiction, including some who have left prison and are supervised in the community. Then use Haven registration for the notifications it provides. Notices may cover release, early-release programming, custody changes, agent changes, expiration of supervised release, or a return to community supervision.
Haven registration uses a form that can be sent by email or mail to the MNDOC Victim Assistance Program. Help is available at 1-800-657-3830. This system split is not optional terminology. Calling VINE a Minnesota prison-alert system would route a Lake of the Woods County user to the wrong service.
The Locator and Haven also serve different roles. The Locator is a public viewer for adults who remain under DOC authority. It can show current status and date fields when available, but it is not a notification registration. Haven accepts notification requests but does not let the public browse people by name. A fully discharged person may also fall outside the Locator’s current-jurisdiction scope, so DOC Records is the proper fallback for an older release or final-discharge history.
Lake of the Woods VINE Limits
VINE is a notification and custody-status channel, not an official release certificate. Participating county-jail information typically updates every 15 or 30 minutes. Administrative or transmission lag can still occur. A scheduled date may change. A release event may omit the exact legal authority, and a transfer must be followed to the receiving facility.

Resolve Lake of the Woods No-Matches
A no-match result has narrow meaning. It says only that the current search returned no record. Retry a partial name, a known ID, and name variations. Confirm Minnesota is selected. Then check whether the last known custodian was truly the Lake of the Woods County Jail.
If the person may have transferred, contact the Sheriff and ask for the destination when that information is public. For an old state prison case, the public MNDOC viewer may no longer show someone who reached final discharge. MNDOC Records is the fallback for an authoritative older release or discharge history. A federal or immigration event belongs in its own locator and agency records process.
The county’s public data request form can seek existing booking, release, and transfer data. Include enough detail to locate one transaction. The county need not create a record that does not exist, so request maintained fields rather than a custom summary.
A precise Lake of the Woods County request can name the booking date, case or ICR number, and any known facility ID. Ask for the existing custody-ending date and time, maintained release or transfer code, legal authority, and destination when public. If a transfer produced a new booking elsewhere, the receiving agency controls its own record. Requesting each source separately keeps the local departure and later custody event from being collapsed into one unsupported result.
